Trustees excited by vision for Winnetka’s business districts

March 27, 2013 – Chicago Tribune –  Imagine Winnetka with several lively business districts, where one might take in an summer arts festival in Hubbard Woods, then grab a beer and watch a game in one of many pub options in the Elm Street district. Mayor Giarrante says deal in the works for old Joliet prison

March 20, 2013 – The Herald News –  The city is talking with a prospective developer for the old Joliet prison on Collins Street. Mayor Thomas Giarrante described the potential deal as “preliminary.” But he was confident enough in the prospect to announce it during his State of the City address Wednesday. “We have someone who is very interested in that prison,” he said. “He has some great ideas. Mayor Says 600 Jobs Will Come with Pullman Development’s Retail Complex

March 23, 2013 – DNAinfo.Com Chicago –  Seeking to boost investment in the Pullman neighborhood and increase its historical value, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced the start of the second phase of a $135 million development that has already brought a Walmart to the area. Emanuel said the $45 million project will create 600 jobs and bring a retail complex anchored by a Walmart between 103rd and 111th streets along the Bishop Ford Freeway on the former site of a steel mill. Despite the Chill – Over 150 Turn Out for Winter Networking

The ULI Chicago Young Leaders hosted a successful Winter Networking Event at Moe’s Cantina. The River North venue was packed to capacity with a broad spectrum of real estate professionals in the development, law, planning, construction, and design fields. Young leader regulars caught up with old friends and senior industry leaders while several new members established key relationships at their first ever event. Issues Addressed by Winnetka TAP Faced by Other Communities Across the Country

Tina Dalman, panel member for Winnetka’s Commercial Districts TAP held on February 27-28, 2013, questions how retail will adapt to shifting downtown markets. The panel discussed how changes in shopper behavior paired with significant retail growth in surrounding communities have presented a new problem, both for existing retailers who have seen the number of shoppers decline and online retail competition increase, and building owners experiencing difficulty in attracting tenants.
