Representatives from a variety of agencies including the City of Joliet, the Forest Preserve District of Will County, the Joliet Park District, Openlands, CMAP, and ULI met to tour the east side of the Former Prison Property (known as Prison East). The tour was another step forward in the ongoing implementation of ULI Chicago’s Technical Assistance Panel recommendations for the Joliet Correctional Center Redevelopment (TAP completed in 2012). First new indoor mall in the Chicago area in two decades opened this month

ULI Chicago staff checked out the new Fashion Outlets of Chicago in Rosemont this week to see if it lived up to all the hype around the high-end outlet mall.  The 530,000 SF mall is actually a mixture of more than 130 outlets, factory stores and brand-name retailers like Michael Kors and Gucci.  With 11 restaurants and on-site baggage check and passenger check-in for O’Hare travelers, Rosemont officials hope the mall will become a tourist destination.  Read more The staff verdict:  customer-friendly layout, but small store footprints … still, no one had trouble finding something … Read More

Winnetka Village Board reviews recommendations offered by ULI Chicago TAPs

August 13, 2013 – Chicago Tribune – Winnetka studies its commercial districts Significant changes to Winnetka’s three commercial business districts are among the recommendations included in an Urban Land Institute study recently presented to the village council. The institute on Aug. 6 gave the second of two presentations to the council, including an assessment of Winnetka’s commercial health while also proposing a long-term commercial strategy for the village. ULI Works…in Chicago: Fall Meeting Heads-Up

Michigan Avenue is now the temporary home of fifteen sculptural heads designed and created by Plant Green Ideas whose mission is to get people to think about sustainability and the impact of a green economy on Chicago.  The 11-feet tall heads were manufactured using locally sourced sustainable materials, meet LEED standards, and are bursting with live plant material.  We hope the head-honchos will stick around for the Fall Meeting !
