The Preservation Compact releases “Preserving Chicagoland’s Future” a report on 2012 activities
October 2, 2012
From 2005 to 2011, ULI and ULI Chicago coordinated The Preservation Compact activities. Paul Shadle, ULI Chicago Chair, continues to serve on the Compact Leadership Committee and ULI supports the mission and goals of the organization. The Preservation Compact is implementing strategies to address ongoing losses in the region’s affordable rental housing stock and their 2012 report Preserving Chicagoland’s Future describes the growing demand for rental housing, provides a snapshot of Cook County’s renters and rental stock, and illustrates that preservation is the most efficient – and affordable – way to keep our rental stock viable and our neighborhoods strong. The report is supported by data as well as case studies. Read the full report
Over 800,000 rental units provide housing for four of ten families in Cook County – nearly 2 million people. These homes, most of which receive no government assistance, play a central role in the region’s $320 billion economy and are as critical to its infrastructure as the region’s highways, transit systems, schools, and industrial parks. To ensure an adequate supply of rental housing in the future, The Preservation Compact works to find ways to preserve the units we already have.
