Looser regulations would make serving consumers easier, they say
Some Winnetka business owners say looser regulations would make it easier to serve changing consumer habits.
For example, customers of D’s Haute Dogs can now wash down a hot dog with a cold beer while watching a game. But it shouldn’t have been so difficult to get the liquor license, said Jared Boyar, the restaurant’s owner.
“They’re trying to preserve 1955 Winnetka,” Boyar said of village officials. “But now this is 2013 Winnetka, with young citizens who have moved from the city — and they want to experience in Winnetka what they had in the city.”
Boyar and others were bolstered recently by a Urban Land Institute report that recommended an easing of some regulations in the village’s three business districts.
