ULI Chicago Panel Recommendations Moving Ahead in Joliet

ULI Chicago’s Joliet Correctional Center Redevelopment TAP took place in January 2012 and both ULI Chicago and TAP partner, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), have been tracking progress on recommendations outlined in the panel report.  In addition to the 1, 6, and 12 month follow ups regularly conducted by ULI Chicago, CMAP followed this project for an additional year to track continued progress. TAP UPDATE: Joliet Correctional Center Redevelopment TAP, Joliet, IL – August 2013

Representatives from a variety of agencies including the City of Joliet, the Forest Preserve District of Will County, the Joliet Park District, Openlands, CMAP, and ULI met to tour the east side of the Former Prison Property (known as Prison East). Mayor Giarrante says deal in the works for old Joliet prison

March 20, 2013 – The Herald News –  The city is talking with a prospective developer for the old Joliet prison on Collins Street. TAP UPDATE: Joliet Correctional Center Redevelopment TAP, Joliet, IL – December 2012

ULI Chicago reconvened a subset of members from the Joliet TAP, representatives from the City of Joliet, and TAP partner CMAP to assess implementation of the panel recommendations. Steady progress is being made by the City to reactivate the 120 acre Prison East site for recreational use- including successful partnerships with CN Railroad on a road realignment and continuing discussions with the Joliet Park District and Will County Forest Preserve to program the site.
