ULI Chicago WLI Presents:
Equity in Real Estate | Racial Disparity in
Lending
Tuesday,
October 6, 2020
Join the ULI Chicago Woman’s Leadership
Initiative (WLI) for a series titled “Equity in Real Estate.” The series will take
an in-depth look at some of the structural causes of racial discrimination in
real estate, and some of the solutions. The
first part of the series will feature City of Chicago Chief Equity Officer
Candace Moore and City of Chicago Department of Housing Commissioner Marisa
Novara in a discussion of the causes and effects of racial disparity in
lending.
Chief Equity Officer Moore was appointed in 2019 to lead
the City’s new Office of Equity and Racial Justice. Ms. Moore has dedicated her career as an
agent of change, advocating for equity by leveraging civil legal services and
partnerships with community-based advocates and institutional policy makers.
Commissioner Novara was appointed in 2019 to lead the
City’s efforts to keep Chicago affordable for all income levels through a variety
of projects and policies. Commissioner
Novara brings years of experience serving on the front lines in the effort to
provide affordable housing and dismantle racial and economic segregation, as
director of Lawndale Christian Development Corp. and then as vice president of
the Metropolitan Planning Council.
As with its popular Breakthrough Series, WLI is
highlighting female leaders in Chicago’s real estate industry and civic
community. This special “Equity in Real
Estate” series will provide a “deeper dive” on issues that are endemic,
systemic, and historic, yet more relevant and urgent than ever.
To be
part of the solution, you must be part of the conversation – everybody is
welcome to attend!
