WLI’s Turning Lemons into Lemonade: Re-Thinking Space in a Changing World

    Monday, May 24, 2021
While 2020 handed the real estate industry quite a few lemons, it also presented the opportunity for inclusive and innovative change. This program will highlight the lemonade - exploring best practices for re-thinking and re-purposing neighborhood retail, office, and entertainment space in creative ways that may extend beyond a socially distanced world.
Katherine Darnstadt, Founding Principal Architect, Latent Design, will provide insight around her experience repurposing storefronts and existing spaces to restore activity and vibrancy to Chicago’s neighborhood commercial areas. Lee Dickson, Managing Director & Broker, Baum Realty Group, will add particular context to the discussion on how entertainment and events have adapted this past year, and how those users will continue to be creative as restrictions loosen. Taryn Huebner, a prior chef of Oprah Winfrey’s and Owner, The Kismet Table, will speak more specifically to how her new culinary experience in Lincoln Park illustrates the entrepreneurial thinking that has led to an innovative meals-to-go and small-group dining concept.  The conversation will be moderated by Suzanne Martinez, Director, AEW Capital Management, who will provide a real estate investment lens throughout the discussion.
