Michigan Avenue is now the temporary home of fifteen sculptural heads designed and created by Plant Green Ideas whose mission is to get people to think about sustainability and the impact of a green economy on Chicago. The 11-feet tall heads were manufactured using locally sourced sustainable materials, meet LEED standards, and are bursting with live plant material. We hope the head-honchos will stick around for the Fall Meeting !
They are part of Mayor Emanuel’s Sustainable Chicago 2015 initiative, a roadmap to make Chicago a healthier, more livable and more prosperous place. Twenty-four specific goals outline how Chicagoans, at home and at work, can get involved.
Chicago continues to be a leader in sustainability. It is home to the largest urban solar plant in the nation and has more green rooftops than any other city. Fall Meeting attendees who arrive at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport can even enjoy freshly grown greens from the world’s first Aeroponic Garden inside an airport terminal or taste some Sweet Beginnings* honey from our On-airport Apiary, the first in the U.S.
“A sustainable Chicago is a city that spends less on energy use with each passing year, creates good-paying jobs in up-and-coming industries, responsibly maintains and upgrades its infrastructure, and ensures every Chicagoan has the opportunity to live a healthy and active lifestyle.”
