According to a newly released report from the Institute for Housing Studies, the supply of rental housing affordable to lower-income households in Chicago and suburban Cook County has not kept up with the growing demand.

Between 2007 and 2011, the gap between the supply of and demand for such affordable rental housing in the City of Chicago increased by eight percent. In suburban Cook County, this affordability gap increased by more than 25 percent during the same period.
