ULI Chicago with support from the City of Chicago Department of Planning and Development and Chicago Loop Alliance convened a multi-disciplinary panel of real estate professionals to develop recommendations to reposition LaSalle Street, from Wacker Drive to Jackson Boulevard, as a thriving, work-play-live corridor in downtown Chicago. ULI Chicago Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) members interviewed nearly 70 stakeholders and worked collaboratively, meeting multiple times over two months, to develop their recommendations.
ULI Chicago hosted a virtual community meeting to present these recommendations on Tuesday, March 22, 2022. Watch the recording of the public presentation.
“Reenergizing Chicago’s iconic LaSalle Street corridor and envisioning a future beyond its storied past as Chicago’s Financial District, is critical for the vitality and economic health of downtown Chicago and the City as a whole,” said Mary Ludgin, ULI Chicago Panel Chair and Senior Managing Director and Director of Global Investment Research, Heitman. “Our diverse panel of real estate and planning professionals is excited to present recommendations for repositioning LaSalle Street as the heart of an inclusive new work-play-live neighborhood in the downtown, accessible and welcoming to all Chicagoans,” she added.
“The recommendations of the ULI TAP provide a reasonable phased approach to return activity to LaSalle. Many of the recommendations to activate the street; fill vacant storefronts; expand the uses of the street are all consistent with the work of Chicago Loop Alliance and reflective of urban revitalization efforts across the country,” said Michael Edwards, Chicago Loop Alliance President and CEO. “These efforts are also inclusive of affordable housing, university, arts and culture, bring surprise and delight to a historic financial district, and Chicago looks forward to being an active participant to the implementation of the program.”
