ULI Chicago’s Joliet Correctional Center Redevelopment TAP took place in January 2012 and both ULI Chicago and TAP partner, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), have been tracking progress on recommendations outlined in the panel report. In addition to the 1, 6, and 12 month follow ups regularly conducted by ULI Chicago, CMAP followed this project for an additional year to track continued progress.
The City of Joliet and the Collins Street Task Force, one of the leading groups through which the City and others are working towards implementing the report’s recommendations, have been working to acquire the prison property from the State of Illinois. Legislation was introduced but has recently stalled in a House subcommittee. Many of the recommendations outlined by the panel hinge on acquisition.
