ULI Chicago Member, Mark Hahn, Provides his Perspective on the 2012 Fall Meeting
October 18, 2012
The ULI Fall Meeting in Denver officially kicked off Wednesday, October 17 at the Denver Convention Center (pictured), with the product council meetings. I had the privilege of being invited as a guest on the Multi-Family Gold product council. The product council was fascinating and the council members participate heavily in forming the topics for discussion, sharing their experiences and asking questions of one another. These members are very high-level people with very active deal flow. The topics discussed in the council I attended ranged from public policy, debt markets, the general economy, the state of multi-family, social media, capital markets, recent transactions and recent product trends. The setting was intimate, but not intimidating.
Senator Alan Simpson was the opening keynote speaker for the Fall Meeting. This former senator from Wyoming highlighted the controversial Simpson-Bowles proposal on a strategy to cut the federal deficit and achieve a balanced federal budget. The outspoken personality of this man was powerful to personally witness. Overall, the first day of the Fall Meeting was packed with programs and activities, which left me with several issues to reflect on during the weeks and months ahead.
