ULI Members Comment on the Impact of Universities on Chicago Neighborhoods
July 15, 2013
The Afternoon Shift on WBEZ public radio talked to ULI members, Alicia Berg, Columbia College Chicago, and Christine Carlyle, SCB, about universities and their impact and roles in Chicago neighborhoods.
“Not long ago, Chicago’s urban universities often took two approaches to campus planning: they either physically walled themselves off from their surrounding neighborhoods or they quietly contemplated moving to the suburbs. Today, universities have brought down many of those barriers and are major players in economic and urban development affairs in the neighborhoods that surround them.”
