CHICAGO (June 18, 2014) – Two Chicago developments, 300 East Randolph and MetraMarket, have been selected as finalists in the 2014 ULI Global Awards for Excellence competition, widely recognized as the land use industry’s most prestigious recognition program. The two finalists have also been honored locally with ULI Chicago Vision Awards (300 East Randolph 2012 Project Category: Innovation and MetraMarket 2013 Project Category: Adaptive Re-Use).
300 East Randolph (Developer: Walsh Higgins & Company; Goettsch Partners) – A two-phased, vertically expanded office tower located in the East Loop.
MetraMarket (Developer: U.S. Equities Realty; Designer: Cannon Design) – A mixed-use urban development in the West Loop that provides a unique and effective, high-traffic marketplace for small local artisans and purveyors.
A total of twenty-three outstanding developments from around the globe, including eleven in North America, seven in Asia, and five in Europe, have been selected as finalists in the competition. “Chicago’s contributions to development, design, and architecture are known throughout the world. We are very proud of our long history of ULI Global Awards with more than 25 projects named as either finalists or winners over the past 28 years including Millennium Park and Roosevelt Vertical Campus, among many others,” said Paul Shadle, DLA Piper LLP (US) and Chair, ULI Chicago. The competition, now in its 36th year, recognizes real estate projects that achieve a high standard of excellence in design, construction, economics, planning and management. The program, open to all and not just to ULI members, is viewed as the centerpiece of ULI’s efforts to identify and promote best practices in all types of real estate development.
The competition is part of the Institute’s Awards for Excellence program, established in 1979, which is based on ULI’s guiding principle that the achievement of excellence in land use practice should be recognized and rewarded. ULI’s Awards for Excellence recognize the full development process of a project, not just its architecture or design.
