ULI Chicago Women’s Leadership Initiative hosted its fourth annual Signature Event on April 3rd. This year’s event, titled “Game Changers,” featured a discussion with the women who have profoundly impacted the built environment in Chicago and beyond. Panelists included Billie Tsien, Partner, Tod Williams Billie Tsien | Architects, designer of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago’s Jackson Park; Carol Ross Barney, Design Principal, Ross Barney Architects, steward of Chicago’s rivers including the Chicago Riverwalk design; and Rebekah Scheinfeld, Commissioner, City of Chicago Department of Transportation, owner of the goal to provide Chicago with foundational transportation network for the 21st century. ULI Chicago’s District Council Chair, Mary Ludgin, Managing Director – Head of Global Research, Heitman LLC, led an interactive conversation amongst the panelists encouraging each panelist to share her leadership style as well as discuss the projects that bring them the most pride.
The event sold over 360 tickets, representing the largest attendance at the WLI Signature Event since the series’ inception. The evening began with a pre-event networking opportunity for the local ULI Chicago and WLI leadership and was followed by the panel discussion. After the program, all attendees were invited to a cocktail hour. In addition to being an educational event, the evening was also an opportunity for ULI Chicago’s WLI to share its goals and objectives with the senior members of the local real estate community. In welcoming the audience to the panel, the WLI leadership encouraged the ULI Chicago members in attendance to utilize the cocktail hour to welcome non-ULI members and begin a dialogue with them about the benefits of ULI membership. Furthermore, ULI Chicago’s WLI Advisory and Executive Boards focused their cocktail hour networking on meeting the female non-ULI members in attendance with a post-event follow-up planned.
