300 East Randolph (Developer: Walsh Higgins & Company; Architect: Goettsch Partners) is a two-phased, vertically expanded office tower located at the north end of Grant Park. The 57-story development sits prominently on a 2.3-acre site overlooking Michigan Avenue, Millennium Park and Lake Michigan in the city’s East Loop district and serves as the headquarters for Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) and its Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois division. The building’s 33-story first phase was completed in 1997 and phase two was completed in 2010, adding 24 stories atop the original, fully occupied building.
The ULI Global Awards for Excellence, now in its 36th year, recognizes real estate projects that achieve a high standard of excellence in design, construction, economics, planning and management. The program is viewed as the centerpiece of ULI’s efforts to identify and promote best practices in all types of real estate development.
The competition is part of the Institute’s Awards for Excellence program, established in 1979, which is based on ULI’s guiding principle that the achievement of excellence in land use practice should be recognized and rewarded.
