Amidst all this, like so many other organizations, ULI Chicago had to find its footing quickly and pivot to a virtual platform, so we could continue to provide a space for our members to come together and find meaningful content in a swirling, confusing flow of information and events. Our role in community building, knowledge-sharing, and advancing best practices in development, became more important than ever before. We launched the “front stoop series,” a weekly small group gathering on our virtual front stoops, to unwind and share experiences. Limited to ULI members only, these gatherings allowed members to learn from each other when the world seemed to be changing daily. At the same time, we had to make the decision to cancel our 2020 fundraiser – The Lifetime Achievement Award Dinner. We will host the next Lifetime Achievement Dinner in the Fall of 2021, when the ULI National Fall meeting will be hosted here in Chicago.
 
We knew full well that canceling our only fundraiser for 2020 meant a $300K hit to the bottom line at a time when we would also see less income from all sources. But we knew that ULI Chicago could not stop its work – we were in the middle of completing a strong piece of work in partnership with the City of Chicago, providing recommendations to inform the Mayor’s introduction of a new Accessory Dwelling Unit ordinance this past May. In September, again in partnership with the City, we launched the Resiliency Initiative - deploying our own members to focus on how as a City, we can build our neighborhoods to be stronger, more equitable and sustainable. This initiative will engage more than 100 members & stakeholders over the next 10 months to prepare recommendations to inform Chicago’s first citywide plan in decades.  Review a more complete briefing on our current work.
