ULI Members Guide Students in Development Challenges with UrbanPlan at DePaul University
November 6, 2012
ULI member, Ben Ranney, Terra Firma Co., will act as a facilitator on November 8 for an UrbanPlan session taking place at DePaul University. Ten students will form development teams and respond to a “request for proposal” for the redevelopment of a blighted site in a hypothetical community. Each team member assumes one of five roles: finance director, marketing director, city liaison, neighborhood liaison, or site planner. As students work to outline their development proposals, facilitators challenge the students to think more critically about development issues and the specific responsibilities of their “role”. Facilitators also share their own professional challenges to help students understand the complexities of real estate development. On November 15, additional ULI members will act as the mock “city council” to determine which student teams fulfilled the development mandate most successfully.
